The purpose of this Certificate program is to address the gaps between the undergraduate training of nurses qualified in non-EU / EEA countries and the requirements for nurse training stipulated by EU regulations. The core components of the program address the over-arching requirements of the EU directive, and all enable students to consolidate their clinical competencies, to understand different healthcare systems, and to work as a nurse in healthcare systems within an EI-member state. In addition, alongside the core study-units, students will pursue a set of theoretical study-units selected as required from a wide array of study-units which address as range of clinical specialties, and nursing / health concepts.
Nurses who successfully complete this program can apply for registration as a nurse with the Maltese Council of Nurses and Midwives. One will have an option to travel to any of the countries in the EU and work as a registered nurse. One will have opportunities to get direct recruited in hospitals. Also, one can choose to apply for an EU resident card and get PR after working there for 5 years.

This course is intended for non-EU citizens who are already in possession of a B.Sc. in Nursing Studies but who lack components in accordance with EU Directive 2005-36-EC. The course will hence bridge this knowledge gap and will allow participants to apply for registration with the Maltese Nursing and Midwifery Council. This course will develop the student’s knowledge and understanding of multidisciplinary work in health and social care settings. It is designed to provide an overall insight into concepts of Quality Management (QM) and how issues of quality are related to health and social care services.

This course aims to enhance academic and professional development of nurses who will develop and gain valuable skills such as an in-depth understanding of key research principals, critical evaluation of information / evidence, and effective use of information technology. Participants will also gain a critical awareness of issues at the forefront of nursing practice and analytical, problem – solving and conceptual skills to make reasoned decision in their professional practice and sphere of influence. Topics cover: social demographic trends in the nursing profession, work psychology, managing teams, the role of the nurse as an educator, evidence-based practices in the nursing profession, introduction to research methods, bioethics in HealthCare, and contemporary issues in nursing.

Candidates upon successful course completion can apply for registration with Malta nursing council on the following conditions.
Malta is the only English speaking country in European Schengen region. Malta provides an opportunity for international nurses to come and work in Malta as registered nurse through international nursing adaption route.
International nurses can work in Malta after successfully completing the nursing adaption training which is organized through the Malta Nursing Council accredited institutions. The training program consists of minimum 200 hours preceptorship in recognized hospital, under the supervision of an expert or mentor in the same field. You are also required to do the theory part and submit assignments on the same to become eligible for the international nursing certification which leads to your European Nursing Registration (Malta).
Nursing council exams are difficult but its only for those who apply for adaption after coming to Malta as a home nurse, personal care worker, care worker, student programs and wanted to upgrade as a nurse.
There are no exams for nurses applying through international registration stream done through the recognized training bodies. You are exempted from the nursing council exams once you successfully complete bridging program.
Nursing Council Malta has accredited University of Malta and MCAST University college for providing the Nursing Adaption Training for international qualified nruses.
You should be an internationally qualified and registered nurse in your country with proficiency in English. IELTS is mandatory and you need to have overall 6 Bands in IELTS.
It depends on the practical hours you completed in your training. Applicants shall have successfully completed at least a 3 year nursing program comprising atleast 4600 hours in topics, of which at least one-third should be theoretical training and atleast one-half clinical training ie.e minimum 2300 hours.
You will have to complete a module in Gerontology and shall complete minimum 200 hours of practical training under a mentor.
Normally it takes around 1 month to get nursing registration after you successfully complete nursing qualification. But in this case, the council is acting fast and it took only 3-7 days for previous batches to get their registration.
Yes, so far 100% of nurses are placed after the Bridging program. Still no one can guarantee you a Job after your adaption training even if the chances are high. Institutions also help students to streamline interviews before they finish the program to make sure all will get an opportunity to get into employment. But, placements are completed based on performance in the interviews.
Yes, you are allowed to work part-time as per the Maltese law to meet your living expenses at the time of training.
Yes, you can apply for 6 months Job search visa after successful course completion.
Yes. However, you need to clear the local language of that particular country.
Yes, but only after gaining 1 year experience as a registered nurse in Malta, you are allowed to submit your application with UK NMC. If this is the case, it it not mandatory to meet the English language requirement of UK NMC provided if you submit 1 year experience certiticate from Malta as a registered nurse.
Yes, your spouse can accompany you on a Schengen C visit visa to Malta but we strongly recommend you to apply for Family Re-Union visa after you find employment on successful completion of the training program.
