Schengen Visa Application Requirements

While applying for a Schengen visa, you will have to submit some requirements as a part of Schengen visa application process. 

The Schengen member states have created a list of the required documents for each purpose of entry in their territory, and these requirements are approximately the same for a stay in each of them. 

What Documents are Required for Applying Schengen Visa?

  • Visa Application Form: Duly completed and signed
  • Two recent photos: Must be taken within last 3 months. Size 35 mm x 45 mm with white background.
  • A Valid Passport: Must not be older than 10 years, and it should be valid for at least six months beyond the date you plan to leave the Schengen area. Old passports with visas, (if any)
  • Round Trip Reservation or Itinerary: It must include dates and flight numbers specifying entry and exit from the Schengen area. 
  • Travel Medical Insurance: A Travel Medical Insurance with a minimum coverage of 30000 Euros. It should be valid for whole Schengen area, and should cover any medical emergency such as illness, accidents and even repatriation in case of death. 
  • Proof of Accommodation: A document that shows where you will be accommodated throughout your stay in Schengen area. This can be a hotel booking, a rental agreement or a letter of invitation from a host with whom you will be staying. 
  • Proof of Financial Means: Evidence that you have enough funds to support yourself financially throughout your stay in the Schengen area. 
  • Visa Application Fees: 80 Euros for adults and 45 Euros for children aged between 6 to 12.

Apart from aforementioned required documents, Embassies or Consulates might ask for some specific documents from the Schengen visa applicants depending on their employment status. 

Schengen Visa Requirements According To Applicant's Employment Status

If Employed:

  • Last 6 months salary slips,
    Employment ID card

If Self Employed:

  • Business Registration License / Partnership dead / MOA

If Retired:

  • Proof of retirement like pension book, statement etc.

If Student:

  • School / College / Institute ID Card

If Minor:

  • NOC from parents / non-accompanying parent on INR 300/- stamp paper

If Visiting Friend or Relative:

  • Invitation letter,
  • Inviter’s Passport or Resident Permit,
  • Address proof
  • If Sponsored:
  • Sponsorship letter.
  • Last 6 months bank statement

For Business Visa:

  • Invitation letter from host company stating purpose of trip, business details etc,
  • Covering letter from Indian company on company letterhead

What Documents are Required for Schengen Visa Application for Minor Applicants?

The parents / legal guardians of minor application applying for a Schengen visa must submit some additional documents for the underage applicants as below:

  • Birth certification of minor applicant
  • Application form signed by both parents
  • Family court order: in cases where only one parent has full custody of the child 
  • Certified copies of passport ID / Passport of both parents
  • A notarized parental authorization signed by both parents / guardians if the minor will be travelling alone
