The United Kingdom (UK) and its universities have an undisputed reputation for academic excellence and quality. Thousands of courses are, available for international students that want to study in the UK. The UK is an ideal destination for many decades, for over a million international students from all over the world.
The academic year in the UK runs September to July. Generally, UK Universities and Colleges have 3 intakes. Some of them might also refer to an intake as a term. Major 3 intakes available in the UK are as bellow:
We would advise you to apply well in advance because admissions and scholarships get difficult when you apply closer to the deadline. It is always feasible to apply 6 to 9 months before the academic session starts.
Applicant will generally need the following documents for his/her UK Student Visa (Tier – 4) application:
Before you shortlist the universities, decide what you want to study, where you want to live, overall cost, various opportunities etc.
Shortlist the universities & study programs that meet your requirements and where you want to apply for.
Prepare for the standardized tests like IELTS / TOEFL / GRE / GMAT etc., based on the requirements of the universities & colleges. Register for these tests in advance. While applying for the tests you should also plan for the time required in case you need to retake the test. You should complete these tests before September of the year you wish to apply.
Start planning your financial evidence early. If you or your parents will pay your tuition fees, you will need bank statements showing you have held the required funds in your account for at least 28 days. The least transaction date must be no more than 31 days before you submit your visa application. If you will be funded by an official sponsor, you must obtain a sponsorship letter from them containing all the information required by UKVI.
It's wise to prepare your supporting documents early - as with your financial evidence - so that you can apply quickly once you receive your CAS. Make sure you have your original academic certificates and transcripts, and English Language test certificate, if needed. Your CAS will confirm which documents you need to submit as evidence.
To apply for a student visa (Tier 4), you will need a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from the university.
When you have read all the guidance and prepared all your supporting documents, apply through UK Government Website. During the application you will need to provide CAS number.
When your visa application has been processed successfully, your passport will be sent back to you with a visa sticker pasted to a blank page.
On the dependent visa, your family members including your spouse and dependents will be able to join you and stay with you while you study in the UK.
Definition of Dependent:
A dependent can apply at the same time as the UK student visa applicant or after the student has obtained the result of their application for a visa.
When the applicant has applied for further leave to stay in the UK after their study in the UK and has not yet obtained a ruling, family members will have to wait until his / her permit is approved before submitting their permit for entry clearance.
Where to Apply:
Like for a Student Visa Application, dependents should apply for their visa from their country of residence. The application will be filled online. For each dependent, a separate application must be completed.
In most countries, an appointment to attent visa application center for biometrics enrolment and submission of supporting documents is booked as part of the online applications.
Financial Requirements:
Dependents who apply for a visa must have ample funds to meet the cost of living in the UK. It is GBP 680 per month, up to maximum of 9 months. That is a total of GBP 6120 per dependent.
A bank statement or bank letter is required to satisfy this requirement, and the funds must be kept in the name of the student or the name of the spouse / partner. If the UK Student Visa (Tier 4) holder has an official sponsor that covers the living expenses of any dependent, a letter from sponsor stating this may be submitted to meet the financial criteria.
Student Applicant:
Spouse:
Dependent visa holders can work freely in the UK. However, they are not allowed to work as a doctor in training. If your dependent spouse is highly skilled and secures sponsorship with a Tier 2 licensed employer on his or her own account, please note that they will not be able to ‘switch’ in country to a Tier 2 General Visa.
The UK Post Study Work (PSW) visa allows international students to stay in the UK after graduation in order to find work, for up to 2 year.
From September 2020 any student enrolling at a UK university can stay in the UK after graduation for up to two years in order to look for work related to their degree or course. This applies to graduates of all higher education providers that are recognised as ‘licensed visa sponsors’.
