Study In Italy – A Guide For International Students

Education System in Italy

1st Cycle – Undergraduate degree of three years

Intakes in Italian Universities

There are two intakes for admission in Italian Universities. Students can choose the intake based on the time when they are applying, the course they want, the availability of seats at your preferred college / university.

September Intake: The September intake application process begins in May or June depending on the university and course that you are choosing. Most students from India and other parts of the world choose this intake due to the availability of more courses in this intake.

February Intake: The February intake application process begins in October and November. The exact dates for application deadlines usually vary from one university to another, and also on the choice of course.

Documents Required for Admission in University / College

Type of Students Visas in Italy

Non – EU / EEA nationals require a student visa to study here. There are two types of student visas in Italy based on the duration of the study program:

Visa Type C: Short - stay visa or travel visa valid for single or multiple entries and for a period not exceeding 90 days.
Visa Type D: Long - Stay visa valid for more than 90 days.

Documents Required for a Student Visa

Passport valid for at least three months after the expected end date of your study program.
Complete visa application form and duly signed.
Offer letter of the Institution duly signed and stamped by an authorized person of the Institution.
Work Experience Certificate (if any) duly signed and stamped by an authorized person of the organization
Highest Degree / Diploma duly signed and stamped by an authorized person of the institution and certified by the Indian Ministry of External Affairs (Apostille – certificate).
Declaration of Value of the applicant’s educational certificates duly legalized by the Consular office of the Embassy or alternatively not required as advised by the local Italian Institution.
Prearranged accommodation. Reservation of accommodation is accepted provided that the student has paid a deposit and a cancellation fee in involved. Please note that proof of prearranged accommodation has to be presented even if it arranged or covered by that institution.
Travel Itinerary
Travel Medical Insurance of 3000 Euros at the least for one month.
Two color photographs (45 mm Height and 35 mm Width) of the applicant with white background (70 – 80% face visibility).
Documents indicating that you possess sufficient means of subsistence both for the duration of the intended stay and for the return to your country of origin or residence.
Affidavit of Support from the sponsor.
Bank account statement of the applicant’s sponsor for the last three months duly signed and stamped by an authorized person of the bank. Funds should be 6 months old.
Income tax return acknowledgment of sponsor for the last three assessment years.

Are students allowed to work on Student Visa in Italy?

With a student visa for Italy, students are only allowed to work part-time. It means, they are allowed to work 20 hours per week and 1040 hours per year.

In addition, once students completes their studies, they can apply for converting their resident permit from student one, to a work permit.
